OUR HISTORY

Although SKY MALT is a young company, our roots run a lot deeper. From a brewery built for the Olympics, to the first independent maltings in Ukraine and the birth of SKY MALT in 2024, we’ve had quite a journey.

1980s-1990s: OLYMPIC BEER

Our journey started in 1980 with the opening of Kyiv Brewery #3, brewing its first beer for the XXII Olympic Games. Throughout the 1980s, it became one of the most important brewing facilities in Ukraine, setting a benchmark for quality in the region.

2009: MALTING PLANT

In 2009, our production partners built a modern malting plant in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, western Ukraine. With an annual capacity of over 170,000 tonnes, it is now one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. Its location near key rail and road links was selected for efficient access to domestic and global markets.
The plant specialises in producing reliable, high-quality base malts using carefully selected Ukrainian barley. A significant portion of each harvest is rejected by our partners to meet strict quality standards, with only the best grain making it through.

2024-2025: OUR LAUNCH

SKY MALT was founded after we saw a clear opportunity. Ukraine grows plenty of top-quality barley, but relatively little was being malted and exported. Meanwhile, most of the world’s breweries depended on just a few Western European suppliers. We decided to change that — and got to work.
We started small, running just a few pilot trials. As strong results came in, we quickly expanded into Europe and the UK. From there, we grew into Latin America and Asia, supplying breweries and distributors in Brazil, Mexico, and Japan.
We’re growing rapidly, expanding into new markets and sharpening our logistics as we go. The future looks strong — and we’re just getting started.
